Bloods - lot of bloods, spilled.
On the surface of the sea, on the floating ships.
The blood of the soldiers fighting for their ideals.
On the land, on a field not to far from the main battlefield.
The blood of a warrior protecting his master.
Yes.
My blood.
The tantou which originally aimed for my master's life now impaled onto my back.
By miracle, I had managed to run and get to my master's place in time, shielding her from the attack.
I might be a duplicate, and hadn't live as long as my original has, but I'm sure that I've experience just as much battles as he does. My body had clashed against flesh, blood veins, other swords. I've gained scratches, cracks. But I had always been successfully repaired back to health.
This time, I felt like I'm in the verge of breaking.
My master, who had been covering her eyes the whole time, seemed to have finally noticed that I had came in-between her and the foe, either due to the fact that seconds had ticked away and the blade had yet struck her body, or because she heard my ragged breathings. Her eyes widened when she saw what had happened.
"Yamanba-kun...!"
I pretended to be strong still. "It's fine. Injuries like this suit me just fine."
"What stupid thing are you talking a-"
Her words were drowned as I groaned in pain when the tantou finally draw its blade out of my back. I staggered forward, and she looked as if she was about to receive me, but I wouldn't accept that.
The fight isn't over yet.
"Let's retreat for now, Yamanba-kun."
"No."
My grip on the handle of my sword tightened again as I turned around, now facing our opponents instead and gave her my back. When I did, I heard her soft gasp from behind. The white veil that draped over my back surely had been stained red due to the blood coming from my wounds.
Strangely, the wounds didn't feel stinging anymore.
Perhaps it has something to do with this mysterious surge of power that filled me. I felt that my senses heightened even more than before.
And I'm faster than before. Confirmed when I managed to land consecutive blows against the one who attempted to murder my master and successfully crush its bony body, only in split seconds.
This is neat.
I was about to go after the remaining one but was stopped as my master pulled at my veil.
"You-"
"We're going back."
I turned my head around to glare at her, about to say that I could finish this, that she should stop underestimating me, but was met with a stern gaze that seemed to say that she wouldn't accept his protests.
And she really wouldn't let me say anything, because right at the next second, bright lights enveloped us and we were transported back to her place.
