Childhoodㅤ

He was an innocent 4 years old back then.

A clear day in spring season, when he is to attend a photoshoot session for a brand's summer collection together with several other kid models.

The day he met Sera Rikka for the first time.

"You're Kira Ouka, right? It's nice to meet you."

Rikka was the one who took the initiative to start a conversation between them. And from that conversation, he learned something interesting.

Apparently, Rikka had been curious about Ouka because they started their career at around the same time, although Ouka is 4 years younger than Rikka. So Rikka was very happy to learn that they landed into the same job offer.

"I think we have a lot of similarities. Can we be friends?"

Ouka was more than happy to agree.

Back then, he wasn't as assertive, plus the refined air surrounding him makes him appear hard to approach to kids around his age. Thus he was having difficulty making friends.

Which is why he's glad Rikka was willing to befriend him.

They spend the breaks between taking shoots chatting together, bonding over. Until in one of the breaks, Rikka made a suggestion that lead to a small incident.

"Ouka, Ouka! Do you want to try climbing that tree?"

The tree that Rikka pointed at is a big tree with some of its branches growing out low enough for kids like them to climb on.

Thinking that Rikka meant they'll just climb on those lower branches, Ouka okayed the suggestion and together they came up to the tree.

Much to his surprise, the older kid actually wanted to climb higher and higher. As high as possible.

This made Ouka, who watched Rikka continuing to climb up while he sat down on the lowest branch, to become a little panicked.

"Ri... Rikka! You shouldn't climb too high. You're wearing skirt..."

"It's okay! I'm wearing shorts under this skirt!"

That's not quite the problem though.

The skirt is part of the fashion collection. It's pretty, with frills and all that. And those frills are the reason he's warning Rikka.

"-ah...!"

Then, it happened.

Just like what Ouka had feared, Rikka's skirt caught onto one of the small branches. It caused the skirt to get ripped, wider and wider each time Rikka tried to move.

By the time Rikka safely sit down on the nearest branch, the skirt had been badly ripped, revealing Rikka's legs and the Power Ranger shorts underneath.

The two kids looked at each other with worry clearly visible on their face. They know they'll be scolded for this.

Unfortunately for them, before they got the chance to discuss on how to deal with it, their guardians, who accompanied them to photoshoot locations, found them and immediately spotted the problem.

Just like what they expected, they got scolded. Right on the spot, and drawing the attention of other kids and adults preset on the site.

Both Ouka and Rikka were so embarrassed to get scolded like that, that they ended up crying together.

This incident became one of many unforgettable moments in their life, that both of them talked about quite fondly when the topic came up after they matured into proper adults.

"... Thinking about it again, it might be when I fully aware the meaning of 'don't judge a book by its cover'?"
"Oh? What do you mean?"
"Well... my first impression of you back then was that you're a very well mannered kid, Rikka."
"Haha! I guess truly well mannered kids don't climb up trees in skirts, huh?"
"Yeah. And..."
"Mmhm?"
"I thought you were a girl, so there's... ow!"

A light jab from Rikka cut Ouka's sentence.

"Rude. ... But, actually, I thought you were a girl too, Ouka."
"Oy."

They exchanged frowned look, before breaking into a laugh together.
